International Conference on "Energy Future and Societal Perspectives"

School of Liberal Studies (SLS) of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) organized an International Conference on “Energy Future and Societal Perspectives” during 22-23 March 2018. Policy makers, researchers, industry, and government officials both from India and abroad participated in the conference and debated on various issues pertaining to energy security. The theme of the conference was designed in line with the Government of India’s vision of ‘electricity for all’ and achieving desired economic growth in the years ahead. Around 70 scholars/experts presented their research papers and posters on relevant issue areas involving energy security and India’s roadmap.

In the inaugural session, Dr TKK Reddy, Director General of PDPU, highlighted PDPU’s quest for imparting energy-focussed education and training, based upon the foundation of futuristic research and innovation, relevant to the needs of the society. Dr Nigam Dave, Director School of Liberal Studies pointed out the important contribution of the academia and social science in the energy security discourse. Dr ChaitanyamoyGanguly, eminent Indian nuclear scientist, flagged the crucial part of nuclear energy in the energy-mix and India’s achievements in this sphere. Ms Lydia Powel from Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi, gave the keynote address explaining the necessity of introspection on the current societal behaviour regarding energy generation, preservation, and consumption when the world has no other easy energy options.
