Urban Renewal Mission Internship for School of Liberal Students by AMC

True Academic value of any course is realized only if class room sessions are complemented by industry orientation, international exposure or field trips and internships. School of Liberal Studies at PDPU is known for such unique academic pedagogy. It offers it students opportunities of conferences, government roundtable events, study on the campuses of other universities, corporate internships and urban internships.

To orient students with complex operations of Municipal Corporation and skills of Urban development, for the last two years, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and PDPU have been conducting a month long Urban Renewal Mission Internship. This year's internship for 92 UG and 7 PG students started today on 19th December with address to students by Hon. Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Capt. Dilip Mahajan and other top officers of AMC at Danapith office. Addressing the students, Hon. Municipal Commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra told students that he himself is a Liberal Arts student of JNU and he is very happy to see for the first time in India, any Educational Institute offering such exposure to undergraduate students. He explained students about the concept of Governance and various roles performed by AMC. In a highly interactive session, Hon. Commissioner outlined the need for better civic awareness. He emphasized on the role of young people in cultivating good governance. A month long program would provide a rare opportunity to first semester young students to have hands on experience to urban development tasks like - Heritage preservation, water filtration process, solid waste management, health, revenue, BRTS, education, town planning, road construction and other facets of urban development.

Students would be divided in six zones, AMC officers would explain the functions of corporation and take students to sites for practical demonstration. Students would also get an opportunity to meet counselors. They would also perform during Kankaria Carnival. This exposure would orient students from all parts of India to the city of Ahmedabad.

Last year also 86 students had taken an internship with AMC wherein they also had an interaction with Hon. Mayor of Ahmedabad.
